If any of you still have last month’s column and are using it to plan your summer playing schedule, tear it up! As our fearless national leaders are fond of saying, mistakes were made. This phrase really is useful when you want to acknowledge a disaster but not admit you were the one responsible for it. At any rate, someone (maybe gremlins) caused me to completely botch the dates for upcoming North American Pairs qualifying games at La Fetra Bridge Club.
Here are the correct dates: Thursday, July 13, at 7:00 P.M., Friday, July 14, at 8:45 A.M. (You can do it-just set your alarm clocks), Thursday, Aug. 2, at 7:00 P.M., and Friday,Aug. 3, at 8:45 A.M.
Another big date to circle on your calendar is Sunday, August 12. This is our regular unit game, but it is also our “Play With A Pro” charity game. Unit president Penny Barbieri has gotten several fine players to agree to donate their time to play a session with the person who makes the highest bid for them. As of this column deadline, it looks like our lineup will include Mike Shuman, Erik Paulsen, Peter Sesci, Frances Katz, Roy Wilson, Bill Papa, Herman Helber, and a local columnist who isn’t really a pro but may be able to get through the session without revoking. Penny hopes to add a few more names to the list before game day. Silent auction sheets will be available for you to make your bids at all local games before Aug. 12. The starting minimum bid for the real pros is $10. A couple of us can be had for $0.50 and a cereal box top, though.

For our hand of the month, we have one real jewel and one cubic zirconium. Tom Lill, who seems to be a real drek magnet, submitted another one of his pointless wonders. This time he held
For our winner, we have the following gem: You hold
Until next time ...
